Overview
Play. Know. Grow. Weusi is the sporting life partner for people of color. Weusi is a branding project completed for James Dotson. He envisioned a brand that embodied his passion for sports, travel, black culture, and history. The name Weusi–pronounced as "Way You See," encapsulates the Swahili essence of "Blackness; togetherness."
From here, our team build a brand using diasporic shapes, vivid colors, and expressive type to create a unique identity. My roll in this project was to bring the brand to life through motion with a captivating brand film telling the story of Weusi from naming to completed visual identity.

Considerations
Throughout the creation of the brand film and motion direction, my goal was to craft a style of motion that embodied the playful, explosive nature of the brand identity. The visual language draws inspiration from clay courts, clay bowls, woven African fabrics, Alexandre Dumas, and global excellence—a patchwork of cultural richness and vibrant storytelling.
To mirror that spirit, I leaned into a collage-style approach with abrupt frame jumps, textured overlays, and unexpected transitions. Each cut, stutter, and layered motion choice was meant to evoke a sense of joyful chaos—like watching a fast-paced game played on a sunbaked court or flipping through a well-worn scrapbook that’s come alive. The imperfections highlight character, momentum, and a sense of movement that’s uniquely alive. It feels handmade and irreproducible.
